Where history meets new technologies: a unique interactive journey to revive the rituals, sounds and fascination of the Gallipoli Tuna Fishery.
Fixed tunas fisheries no longer exist in our waters, but their intangible heritage lives on. The future Gallipoli Tuna Fishery Multimedia Museum is designed to move beyond traditional glass showcases and offer visitors a multisensory experience.
Through 360° immersive projections, spatial audio and interactive tables, locals and tourists of every age will be able to step virtually onto the vessels and feel what it was like to live the tonnara in first person.
We are working on the exhibition design and the collection of archive material. The showcase website you are visiting is the first piece of this initiative.
The Stintino tuna fishery operated only from May 10 to June 20. The last rais recalled: “My first year as rais we caught 220 tuna, the second 125, the third 50. Then nothing, because of the oil tankers. The tuna wants silence.”
This memory of toil, seasonal work and change is now at the heart of the museum project, which aims to celebrate the story and offer a sustainable cultural future.

Concept floor plan — Tuna Fishery chambers.
This image shows a conceptual floor plan of the tonnara chambers: waiting areas, the path of the nets and the layout of spaces that lead the tuna toward the mattanza. It is a design sketch meant to help imagine the relationship between the exhibition space and the museum's narrative journey.
A conceptual visualization of the future "Abyss Room." This is not the final structure, but an orientative draft for the exhibition.
These sketches present the first proposals for telling the story of the tonnara and its territory in a contemporary museum setting.
